Matthias Graw studied medicine in Hamburg. In 1987, he changed to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, University of Tübingen and in 1993 he achieved the certification in Forensic Medicine. He habilitated in 1998 and started to teach at University of Munich (LMU) in 2001 (C3-Prof.).
Matthias Graw became Provisional Director of the Forensic Institute of LMU in 2009 and is since 2011 Director of the Forensic Institute of LMU. His research focuses are forensic methods in general, analyses of traces, identification, traffic medicine, road safety and forensic biomechanics.
