Andreas Walter is founding member and managing partner of MMI Switzerland AG. Until 2016 he was head of the master planning of the University Hospital of Bern (Inselspital), one of the largest operating and infrastructure projects in the Swiss healthcare sector.
Previously, he worked over 20 years in senior positions in healthcare. Furthermore he was project manager, researcher and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Bern. Andreas Walter has extensive interdisciplinary experience and expertise and in‐depth methodological knowledge.
Andreas Walter began his career with an apprenticeship as electrical engineer and medical technician and was accredited as Perfusionist from the European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. From 1994 to 2001 he headed the Cardiovascular Department of the Hirslanden Klinik Aarau, Switzerland, where he was instrumental in establishing and developing the cardiac surgery department.
As a lecturer and researcher at the Center for Medical Technology (University of Applied Sciences Bern) he managed various projects. Until today he lectures about systemics (design of complex adaptive systems). Among other things, he was part of the team who established the outpatient payment system TARMED at 12 Swiss hospitals. As Business Director of an IT company he worked for the strategic implementation of clinical information systems.
At Siemens Switzerland AG Andreas Walter was Chairman of the Health Strategy Board where he developed overarching strategies for the areas medical technology, building technology and IT. His task was to establish the developed strategies and solutions in the Swiss healthcare system. He also created a master plan concept for hospitals starting from the initial design up to realization including financing models. In line with his position as master planner of the University Hospital Bern from 2012 to 2016
Andreas Walter was responsible for the development, qualification and implementation of the overall renovation of the hospital up to the pre‐project level. Al relevant plannings were completed under his direction, ready to realize the buildings in single construction projects.
Andreas Walter lives in Switzerland since 1994, he is married and has four children.
